Standard grades of Kenaf/Rosella/Mesta Fibres
Name of the Grade Characteristics of the fibres

“Kenaf Top” => Special |
Very strong and sound fibre. Fairly good length. White/light cream and bright colour. Excellent lustre. Completely free from any defect. Maximum proportion of cuttings is 10% by weight.
Would correspond to “Kenaf special” when converted to Pucca grade.

“Kenaf Middle” => A |
Very strong and sound fibre. Fair length. White/light cream colour. Good lustre. Free from specks, runners and harsh crop ends. Maximum proportion of cuttings is 15% by weight.
Would correspond to “Kenaf-A” when converted to Pucca grade.

“Kenaf Bottom” => B |
Strong and sound fibre. Fair length. Light grey/light cream to light straw colour. Good lustre. Free from specks and runners. Maximum proportion of cuttings is 18% by weight.
Would correspond to “Kenaf-B” when converted to Pucca grade.

“Kenaf Bottom” => C |
Average strength, any colour and average lustre. Free from hard centred fibres and runners and hard gummy, tops and natural specks. Maximum proportion of cuttings is 20% by weight.
Would correspond to “Kenaf-C” when converted to Pucca grade.

“Kenaf Bottom” => X |
Any strength, any colour, croppy and gummy tops with barks and hard centre fibre. Maximum proportion of cuttings is 25% by weight.
Would correspond to “Kenaf-SMR” when converted to Pucca grade.

Remarks: Grade “A” and “Special” are very close in terms of quality, colours and other aspects.
